COURSE OVERVIEW

TransOral Robotic Surgery (TORS) was first developed in 2004 at the University of Pennsylvania and in 2009 the FDA approved robotic surgery for selected malignancies of the oral cavity, pharynx and larynx and all benign tumors. In 2014, the FDA cleared robotic surgery for benign base of tongue resection procedures. We have created a unique program this year in which the first half day will focus on cancer related TORS surgery and the second half of the day will allow the group to attend a full half day focused radiation or chemoradiation following TORS. Our thought in creating this program is that successful cancer care as well as the role of TORS for benign base-of-tongue resection results from a collaborative approach between the surgeon and non-surgeon. Whether you are a head and neck surgeon, pulmonologist, radiation oncologist or medical oncologist please look carefully at this program and we hope you will agree that this will offer a unique learning opportunity for all specialties.Surgeons who are presently doing TORS or who have an interest will have the opportunity of learning the state of the art approach from world’s experts. Radiation oncologists, both university and community based, will have the opportunity to better understand robotic surgical techniques and learn the state of the art treatment planning that will allow better collaboration between the surgical and radiation oncology teams.
